Day one making - decorated tiles and giant mushrooms!

It's the first workshop for making the Alice in Wonderland Mural at Ormond Primary School.
The class of 2c are making scratch pictures on bisque tiles.
The tile is coated in underglaze and then a picture is scratched into the underglaze. These tiles will be black and blue and will form part of the checkerboard edges of the mural.

above: the beginning of the giant mushrooms!

Th giant mushrooms were decorated by the year one students. This one by Year 1 A

Above: Debbie keeps track of where all the pieces go by writing numbers on the back of each tile.
She got very confused!

The wonderful mushroom decorated by 1 B!

Above and below : 4 B make card tiles
Her they are decorating bisque tiles with liquid underglazes.
These will be glazed and popped into the kiln and come out all bright and shiny
The students can adapt the cards to link them with the Alice in Wonderland story or the characters.

the cheshire cat!

Scratching back into the painting to create more details

4A made insects for the background in the mural.
Again they could adapt the insect to fit in with the Alice story or characters.

This is the queen of hearts as an insect. Watch out for her sting!

Lots of inspirational material to look at, versions of the Alice in Wonderland storybook, artworks about the story by other artists and photographs of real insects to work from.

These are gorgeous and will come out much brighter after being glazed.

the return of the giant mushrooms!

These mushrooms are preparing to be decorated.
